There is something so energizing about spending a day surrounded by talented, ambitious students eager to make their mark on the tech industry. That was exactly the atmosphere at the University of Maryland Spring Computer Science Career & Internship late last month. And fusionSpan was proud to be there.

Matthew Rodriguez (Marketing), Dan FitzGerald (Engineering), Shawn Lai (Consulting), and Christian Pacheco (Operations) staffed our booth at the Stamp Student Union on UMD’s College Park campus. Having our cross-functional team present meant students could hear firsthand perspectives from across the organization, whether they were curious about engineering, consulting, or client work.

A Day to Remember

Our table was consistently one of the busiest at the fair, with a steady stream of students stopping by throughout the day. By the time we packed up, we had collected over 400 resumes — a testament to the quality of talent at UMD and the growing interest in fusionSpan as an employer.

One highlight stood out: fusionSpan was recognized as one of the top 4 “ethical companies to work for” at the fair, as ranked by a student organization on campus. Being acknowledged this way — by students themselves — reflects our commitment to our core values of Trust, Community, and Innovation.

Who We’re Looking For

Since the fair was CS-focused, we came with two clear tracks for prospective applicants: full-time software developer roles for graduating seniors, and summer and fall internships in software development and data for students still working through their degrees. These internships are designed to be meaningful, hands-on experiences — interns work alongside our full team on real projects with real impact. We also kept our eyes open for strong project management and consulting profiles, because great talent comes in many forms.

Why fusionSpan?

The question we loved hearing most: “What makes fusionSpan different?” The honest answer is our mission. fusionSpan is a technology solutions company that serves nonprofits, associations, and mission-driven organizations. Our work, from Salesforce implementations to association management systems, helps these organizations leverage technology to amplify their impact. When you work at fusionSpan, you’re not just writing code. You’re helping causes that matter do their work better.

Meeting the Next Generation: fusionSpan at the UMD Spring CS Career Fair

My name is Matthew Rodriguez. I have recently moved to the DC area and have loved getting acquainted with the area. As an avid coffee drinker, my favorite way to explore a neighborhood is through its coffee shops. I am also getting married later this year, on October 26! I hold a Bachelor's of Science in Business and have 3 years of experience. My last position was as a People Generalist at Cariloop. I grew up around Chicago, Illinois, and moved to Arlington, VA, in November of 2023. I am deeply passionate about history and organizational development. I have loved history from a young age and am always fascinated by how humans have organized themselves to make the best use of the goods and resources available to them in their environment. This interest has carried over into the world of business, where I am interested in how businesses organize themselves to make the best use of their business environment. In my free time, I love to read, particularly spiritual books and fantasy. Right now, I am making my way through the Stormlight Archive series by Brandon Sanderson. I also enjoy running and biking on DC trails, especially on the Rock Creek Park trail and the Canal Path and Mount Vernon trails. My favorite snack is chocolate ice cream from Trader Joe's. If I could have a superpower, I would love to fly. Although I currently don't have any pets, I would love to have a dog someday.
