fusionSpan at Top GolfLooking to do something a little different for your next team-building outing? Take a look at Topgolf, a fun group activity that feels a lot like the bowling version of golf. fusionSpan recently took a Friday afternoon off to try it out, and the reviews all came back positive (much to the chagrin of my local bowling alley attendant).

So first, what is Topgolf? It’s like a pumped-up driving range, offering quality food and refreshments, and scoring mechanism that allows players to earn points for hitting their golf ball into large targets spread out across the range. Scoring works where you are given a specific set of golf balls with your name added into a micro chip on the inside. Then, when you hit the ball at a target, the scoring system automatically gives you points based on how far away the target is and how close to the center of the target you hit the ball. There are bonus points and other things, but that’s the general idea.

Like the idea, but don’t think people will enjoy golf the same way they enjoy bowling? I’d encourage you to reconsider:

  1. Instead of sitting inside a dark room, you get to be outside. This means not all staff photos end up blurry!
  2. Worried no one on your staff plays golf…? Because everyone on your staff goes bowling every weekend?
  3. Plus, they have golf pro experts on site to help people out with their swing – when was the last time a bowling alley provided a bowl expert?
  4. Worried people will get frustrated playing golf…? Ever heard of a gutter ball? Plus, the targets are so big people inevitably knock a ball or two into a target.
  5. Worried someone will show up with their own clubs taking things too seriously? It’s the same person who would show up to the bowling alley with their own ball, so also not a good excuse.

Definitely a lot of fun and a great way to get the staff together in a low key setting outside the office! Still not convinced? Check out these fun photos from our staff outing:
