Employee Spotlight: Himali Shah – Salesforce Solution Architect

Himali Shah
Salesforce Solution Architect

Growing up, I asked a lot of questions and used to get in trouble for it. Here, it is encouraged and part of my job - that’s cool.

If you have ever been in the fusionSpan office, you have probably seen (and heard!) Himali working. One of fusionSpan’s most dedicated team members, Himali is working around the clock to fulfill the needs of her clients. Serving as one of our Salesforce Solution Architects, Himali primarily works on implementations, support, and products within the Salesforce ecosystem.

We recently sat down with Himali to learn more about her past and present, as well as seeing where the future will take her. See what makes Himali one of the industry’s top CRM Analysts.

How Did Your Previous Roles Help You Prepare For Your Time Here at fusionSpan?

As an International Relations major, Himali did not originally come from a technology background. In fact, she joked that she “couldn’t tell you what an integration, SSO, or API call was before joining the team here.” Before coming to fusionSpan, Himali served as a jack of all trades at Smart Electric Power Alliance (SEPA). Initially starting off in administration, she worked her way up through various departments. Eventually, Himali transitioned into the membership department at the association, where she found her current love for CRM work.

Himali said that “Having association experience helped a lot, I am not an expert in Fonteva and Salesforce, but at SEPA I was allowed to grow and learn because I played a role in every single department.”

Her time at SEPA allowed her to learn so many things about the membership process, as well as how associations operate. Himali was able to see firsthand the mission and goals of an association, the marketing efforts, and even pain points from members. In fact, Himali said: “Whenever I’m working with a new client, I don’t feel like I’m working for fusionSpan. I feel like I am at that association trying to help them solve their problems.”

What Are Some Of Your Favorite Responsibilities of Your Role?

As a Salesforce Solution Architect, Himali’s main role is to ensure anything fusionSpan delivers is optimized and scalable for growth. Her daily responsibilities entail solving problems – this often requires learning about different associations and how each one works. Himali said one of the tasks she enjoys most is “putting on a detective hat” and hearing different issues from a customer through discovery.

She said “Growing up, I asked a lot of questions and used to get in trouble for it. Here, it is encouraged and part of my job. That’s cool.”

Hima also does large-scale implementations, as well as work on Salesforce products/accelerators. Recently, she even got to work on the roster Membership Power Pack (MPP) product for client-facing release.

She loves helping a customer make it easier for their members to join and update data during renewals, as she. explained “my favorite projects are not just developing technologies and stuff – we are consultants. It’s never about the technology, it’s also about the business and the processes.”

What Does Your Future Hold with fusionSpan?

Even though she has already grown so much at fusionSpan, Himali is always looking to improve both her personal skill-set and the Salesforce department as a whole.

She said that one of her upcoming goals is to become Certified Association Executive (CAE) certified, (and is actually looking for a study buddy)! Himali said that she “would like to become more involved in the tech and association sector,” and sees the CAE certification as a logical step in that direction.

In terms of fusionSpan, Himali wants to continue building the team, saying she “wants to build new detectives to go out into associations and help their business, processes, and technology.”

Employee Spotlight: Rachel Sigler

Rachel Sigler
Project Manager for fusionSpan’s Professional Services department.

What I enjoy most about my current position is just helping clients and seeing the difference we make for them - it doesn't have to be the biggest project to make an impact

Once a month, fusionSpan will share the talent and hard work of the people that we call our team. From development, operations, digital strategy, professional services, and more – we pause to get a little bit personal, showcasing the faces behind the technology solutions that we work on each day. This month we meet fusionSpan Project Manager, Rachel Sigler.

What positions did you hold prior to joining fusionSpan?

My background is in Health Fitness & Recreation Resources, and I got my degree from George Mason University. After college, I was a personal trainer for a bit, then I moved into corporate fitness. I was mainly responsible for running different health and wellness programs, as well as a lot of administrative work. You wouldn’t think so much about corporate fitness jobs, but a lot of planning goes into that field as well.

During the summers, when I was in college, one fun job I had was as a gas attendant at a marina. When boats came in to dock, I would help bring them in, tie them up, get them gas, and send them on their way. I got to do that for a few years, and it was definitely a fun and unique experience!

What hobbies or activities do you enjoy in your free time?

I grew up playing soccer. At age seven, I started playing competitively, then I played throughout high school. Even now, I play in co-ed, recreational leagues – it’s a lot of fun. It is a nice hobby to get outside and get exercise with friends. I usually have games once or twice a week.

What are the main responsibilities of your current role? What do you enjoy most about your position?

My current role is Project Manager within our Professional Services department, so I spend a lot of time in that liaison role between the development team and the client. I keep communication flowing and make sure every task is getting done.

A big focus of mine is keeping tasks and projects organized and on track. I ensure items are getting done in order, on time, and make sure those items are communicated to the client.

What I enjoy most about my current position is helping clients and seeing that we are making a difference for them – it doesn’t have to be the biggest project to make an impact. Making even the smallest change could be a huge help for the client.

When clients provide feedback along the lines of “this is so much better and easier,” but it was a minor change that they didn’t know they could make, it’s just a great feeling to have made their day a lot easier.

How has your role changed or grown since you joined fusionSpan?

When I started about three and a half years ago, I was in more of an Administrative and Registrar role. My background wasn’t in consulting so I came in with an open mind, and quickly learned how to start grasping new concepts.

fusionSpan was a lot smaller, so most of my work was with our CTO Manav, in our eight-person office. It included random office duties and helping move to our new office in Rockville. As an event registrar, I would assist troubleshooting registration problems and travel with clients to their conferences to assist onsite.

I have always been on our Professional Services team. Because we’re so small, I’ve had to wear a lot of different hats. Initially, I would handle the support tickets that came in our ticketing system from clients. I got to troubleshoot their systems and I’d spend much of my time trying to figure things out myself. If I couldn’t, I’d get help from someone else on the team that had a little more experience. It has been an amazing opportunity to learn and grow into my current position here as Project Manager.

What words would you use to describe fusionSpan? What have you enjoyed most about being here?

I have been here for three and a half years, and while that may not seem like a very long time, I feel like I am a company veteran. I have gotten to see us grow from the little eight-person office in DC to our large, two suite Rockville, MD office – it’s cool to see us bursting at the seams now. It’s just great to see how much we’ve grown and developed since I started here.

When thinking of words to describe fusionSpan, the first one that comes to mind is growth. I see so much expansion and growth of the company, and that’s been so great to see and experience.

The second word is open. I can talk with everyone. I don’t feel like there are any closed doors. Even with Manav and Gayathri being President and CTO of the company, I feel as if I can always pop in their offices or send a quick Slack message to touch base. It’s an awesome feeling to be a member of such a team and family oriented environment.

The third word that I would say describes fusionSpan is opportunity. You don’t have to come into fusionSpan with all the knowledge to be successful. Much of my work was on-the-job training. If someone has the right mentality and an open mind, they have so much opportunity to learn.

At the end of the day, I see a lot of success here at fusionSpan, and can’t wait to see how we continue to grow and help clients!

Employee Spotlight: Dan FitzGerald

Dan FitzGerald
fusionSpan Software Engineer

I think my favorite part of work might be that we get to work with so many different technologies. From all of the Salesforce related technologies (Visualforce, Apex, SOQL, Javascript) to the DevOps tools we use to backup and deploy code, there is always something new to learn and explore.

Once a month, fusionSpan will share the talent and hard work of the people that we call our team. From operations to delivery and engineering to program management – we pause to get a little bit personal, showcasing the faces behind the technology solutions that we work on each day. This month we meet fusionSpan Software Engineer, Dan FitzGerald.

What was your first job? Tell us about it.

I had my very first job when I was in high school. I worked for a large sporting goods chain, restocking merchandise and helping customers. It wasn’t the greatest job, but I’m glad I had the experience. Working in retail can really teach you to appreciate all the people working those jobs. Since then, I’ve had a number of other jobs, including bartender and working in technical support for a large corporation.

About a year ago I completed my Computer Science degree at the University of Maryland and started my career in Software Development with fusionSpan.

Who has influenced you most in your professional path/career?

My father worked in the technology industry while I was growing up, so I was exposed to the field from an early age. He didn’t believe in getting service plans for our computers, so if we ever had an issue, I’d get to help him take it apart and troubleshoot the problem. Ever since then, I’ve loved working with technology, and wouldn’t be in the field now if not for him.

What’s your favorite part about working in the technology industry? What drew you to it?

My favorite part is that we get to work with so many different technologies. From the Salesforce related technologies (Visualforce, Apex, SOQL, Javascript) to the DevOps tools we use to backup and deploy code, there is always something new to learn and explore.

After working in a few fields I didn’t have much interest in, it’s amazing to do something I really enjoy.

What are the main responsibilities of your current role? What do you enjoy most about your position?

As a Software Developer in the Salesforce specialization, my responsibilities are focused on designing and implementing software solutions on the Salesforce platform. Although this does include writing a fair amount of code, it also means working closely with people throughout the team. I collaborate daily with Project Managers, Analysts, and Technical Architects to plan and design solutions for our clients. I also regularly work with other developers in our department to troubleshoot issues, review and revise code, and improve our internal processes.

The part I enjoy the most is actually building solutions that solve problems. It’s a big part of why I got into programming in the first place.

Looking back, what career advice would you tell your 18-year-old self?

Make sure you consider factors beyond just salary. There are so many other things that can make a job a good or bad fit. Company culture, management, and co-workers are more important than you think, so don’t settle when it’s a bad fit, and don’t take it for granted when it’s good.

What’s your favorite thing to do when you’re not working?

With everything going on, I’ve been doing more indoor activities lately, but I really do enjoy watching movies and TV. I’m a big sports fan – I follow most of the local DC area teams. I’m also an avid PC gamer and recently started getting into Virtual Reality.

What words would you use to describe fusionSpan? What have you enjoyed most about being here?

Fast-paced, adaptable, and full of opportunities. I’ve only been with fusionSpan for about a year and a half, and in that short time, I’ve already seen how quickly the company has been able to adapt and expand despite the challenging time we’re in. We’ve quickly adopted tools and processes that have allowed us to remain productive while working remotely. And there are constantly new opportunities to learn and grow within the company.

Besides working with technology, the thing I’ve enjoyed the most is the great group of people here. From the top of the company to the bottom, I’ve had so many positive experiences with everyone that I’ve had the opportunity to work with.

What was your first job? Tell us about it?

This is my first job and I’m very glad to have this great opportunity to work as a Data Analyst. And when I joined fusionSpan, I was the first Data Analyst which was a challenge for me, but everyone in our team is friendly and helped me a lot, I also learned a lot from them.

What’s your favorite part about working in the technology industry? What drew you to it?

As a growing industry, there are more opportunities and challenges. Working in this industry, we can keep learning new knowledge and skills. And the technology industry is improving the way we live and work which makes me feel excited and satisfied.

What’s your favorite thing to do when you’re not working?

Traveling with my family and friends, and playing with Lego which is a great way for me to focus on one thing and relieve stress.

Who has influenced you most in your professional path/career?

What was your first job? Tell us about it.

For my first job, I was a bag boy/shelf stocker at Piggly Wiggly. I spent about a year after school bagging groceries, restocking shelves and retrieving carts from the parking lot. It was a good first job for sure.

Who has influenced you most in your professional path/career?

My parents for sure. My mom was a neonatal nurse and my dad works in IT. I think that having parents who work in completely different fields help provide an interest in many things. I also think that my mom being a nurse provided perspective. While everyone has their hard days hearing about things my mom had to see on a day to day basis reminds you to be thankful for what you have. My parents also always supported and challenged me when it came to my professional path. I have worked in several different industries in my career and during that time my parents were my biggest support and cheered me on always

What’s your favorite part about working in the technology industry? What drew you to it?

My favorite part about working in technology is seeing change. I really enjoy seeing how our work makes a difference to people’s day to day work life. The problem solving aspect is important as well, people would not be looking for a change unless they were hoping to change for the better.

Looking back, what career advice would you tell your 18-year-old self?

I would tell myself to not be afraid to try new things and take leaps of faith. Change is hard for everyone but having self assurance and a strong support system can allow you to make changes for the better. Do not get complacent in your personal or professional life and always try and learn new things.

What’s your favorite thing to do when you’re not working?

I love being near a lake or really any large body of water. I like to swim, be on boats and other water sports. I also really enjoy movies new and old.

What do you enjoy most about your position at fusionSpan?

My favorite part about fusionSpan is the team. From my first day I have been welcomed with open arms. The team that I get to work with are especially open to work collaboratively and willing to help each other without question. Being able to be yourself brings a level of comfort within the team environment that allows us all to grow together.

Project Manager

What drew me to the technology industry are the constant innovations andvarious solutions that can be utilized to solve an issue. I love how no matter how similar two projects may be, they always have their own unique solutions to get them past their respective finish line.

Once a month, fusionSpan will share the talent and hard work of the people that we call our team. From Delivery, Consulting, Operations, and more – we pause to get a little bit personal, showcasing the faces behind the technology solutions that we work on each day. This month we meet fusionSpan Project Manager, Bryan Mobley!

What was your first job? Tell us about it.

In high school, I worked for a shoe store in my local mall, which I do not consider my first real job. That would have to be Subway, where I worked as an Assistant Manager. I worked at a location right around the corner from my parents’ house. The franchise owners offered me the job when I was sitting there killing time for another interview. I worked at that location throughout my college years even while I attended school in Orlando. The franchise owners would just add me back onto the schedule whenever I was available.

I personally loved that job because it taught me so much about working with the public and dealing with a team. To this day I am still in contact with the franchise owners because they helped me to keep sight of my goals and helped mold me. I call them my “Work Parents”.

Who has influenced you most in your professional path/career?

I would have to say my parents influenced my professional path. My father is a software engineer, and my mother is a middle school biology teacher. They encouraged me to always pursue my professional goals no matter what and to do what makes me happy. They have taught me the value of always working smarter and harder. They groomed me to be the man I am today, and I am forever grateful.

What’s your favorite part about working in the technology industry? What drew you to it?

My favorite part about working in the technology industry would have to be getting a new project across the finish line. What drew me to the technology industry are the constant innovations and various solutions that can be utilized to solve an issue. I love how no matter how similar two projects may be, they always have their own unique solutions to get them past their respective finish line.

What are the main responsibilities of your current role? What do you enjoy most about your position?

My main responsibility as a Project Manager is to ensure that projects are on track and meet the client’s requirements. I particularly enjoy Sprint Review meetings the most. It reminds me of “Show and Tell” time when I was in elementary school. I always enjoyed being able to showcase something new, provide explanations, and answer any questions. I still get the same feeling of excitement I felt back then.

Looking back, what career advice would you tell your 18-year-old self?

What career advice would I tell 18-year-old Bryan? Oh, man! I would tell him to relax and enjoy the journey. I would also tell him to not look at life as competition against everyone else, but view it as his own “Choose Your Own Adventure” book. Life is going to give you your own set of obstacles and rewards, you just have to be brave enough to play the game!

What’s your favorite thing to do when you’re not working?

My favorite thing to do when I am not working is to be on my bicycle riding around exploring downtown locations, traversing coastal roads, and racing any riders I encounter along the way. I used to cycle professionally for awhile when I got out of college, but now it is purely for fun. I own 2 road bikes and 1 fixed gear bike.

What words would you use to describe fusionSpan? What have you enjoyed most about being here?

A menagerie of sages is how I would use to describe fusionSpan, because everyone here is not only proficient in their respective specialization but are also ravenous learners of new solutions or innovations. I have enjoyed the camaraderie amongst the fusionSpan employees the most. I particularly enjoy the common ground and connections that we have made outside the typical work discussions, from Dungeons and Dragons to environmentalism to cooking. It is so cool to discover how many things I have in common with people I work with on a daily basis.

Web Technologies Manager

I feel as if putting one's thinking into a machine and making things easier and better for mankind is one of the boons that technological advancement has given us

Once a month, fusionSpan will share the talent and hard work of the people that we call our team. From Delivery, Consulting, Operations, and more – we pause to get a little bit personal, showcasing the faces behind the technology solutions that we work on each day. This month we meet fusionSpan Web Technologies Manager, Sanket Khare!

What was your first job? Tell us about it!

Sanket KhareWhen I was about to complete my Engineering Degree, I was lucky enough to get placed in an IT company. I got training there in web technologies viz. LAMP (Linux, Apache, MySQL, PHP/Perl).

I enjoyed learning computer technologies during training, and was designated as a Software Engineer once the training completed. I started out as a software engineer, getting my hands on coding different features for an auto parts company project, and also getting to know how a website works.

Who has influenced you most in your professional path/career?

Apart from my team and colleagues (which is by default) wherever I have worked, I believe one of my personal friends with whom I have started my job and seen his IT career grow in front of my eyes has influenced me a lot.

His journey has made me keep believing more and more in the concept of hard work. It has shown me that if you have figured out the prospects and are clear on your thoughts, and have marched on with it, then you will definitely reach where you had intended to.

What’s your favorite part about working in the technology industry? What drew you to it?

How real-life scenario problems and issues can be resolved using the internet has always amazed me. I feel as if putting one’s thinking into a machine and making things easier and better for mankind is one of the boons that technological advancement has given us.

What are the main responsibilities of your current role? What do you enjoy most about your position?

At fusionSpan, I am currently working as Manager of Web Technologies. I am leading the team for web projects, and it includes project initiation through planning, implementation, closing, and maintenance thereafter. I enjoy leading the team and managing the tasks with my team.

Looking back, what career advice would you tell your 18-year-old self?

Don’t hesitate in picking up the steps you think, and then regretting why it wasn’t. I would advise myself to take that extraa (purposely adding an additional ‘a’) step which would definitely bring me a learning experience, if not success.

What’s your favorite thing to do when you’re not working?

I like to get on the playground trying on Cricket, Football, and Tennis. I like being pro-actively involved and enjoying the game.

I also feel happy serving food to others that I sometimes cook in my leisure time.

What words would you use to describe fusionSpan? What have you enjoyed most about being here?

I feel like fusionSpan is my second home. fusionSpan has been my teacher, alongside being the place where I work. It has given me opportunities to improve myself, to excel myself, and to define a path for myself.

I like the working systems in place here at fusionSpan, which have made things aligned properly and allow us to focus on the core task. I have also enjoyed the casual get-togethers that often occur, and the out of work events that happen every now and then!

This month we meet fusionSpan Senior Business Analyst Aoife Cashin!

What was your first job? Tell us about it!

In university I worked a few jobs, but my most memorable was for a start up waste management company in Dublin, Ireland. I was a sales rep, which meant going door to door with businesses in the city center.

I met so many small business owners and got a real insight into the operational side of local business. I learned so much from this job, and walking all over the city everyday meant I saved on gym fees!

Who has influenced you most in your professional path/career?

I have been fortunate enough to have had inspiring managers and employers along my career path who have helped shape my career and vision for my future. However, my parents have inspired me most to work on whatever I’m passionate about, and everything else will follow.

What’s your favorite part about working in the technology industry? What drew you to it?

My first job after university was sales for a start-up CRM company. Ever since, I never wanted to leave this industry.

No two days are the same, I’m always discovering something new and learning new skills. I couldn’t imagine doing anything else!

What are the main responsibilities of your current role? What do you enjoy most about your position?

My role here at fusionSpan as a Senior Business Analyst is to understand our client’s business process and deliver a holistic solution that benefits their employees and their members.

The highlight of my day is always being able to present a functionality to our customers that is going to improve their day-to-day operations.

Looking back, what career advice would you tell your 18-year-old self?

I was pretty stubborn at 18 (still am!). But if my 18-year-old self would listen, I would tell her “Don’t worry so much about making mistakes or making the wrong decision, because someday you will be so grateful for all those life lessons.”

What’s your favorite thing to do when you’re not working?

I love going on adventures with my husband Josue and 6 year old son, Hugh. We really enjoy days at the beach and cooking together.

When I do get time to myself I love to escape into a good book.

In my time at fusionSpan I have seen that as a company they go above and beyond not just for customers, but also for employees. We operate as a team, and kindness is ingrained in the DNA of the company.

I love the open dialogue that upper management actively encourages. All feedback is welcome and considered and no process is stagnant – all are in a state of continuous improvement.

Alexander Lord
Senior Consultant, Delivery

The company is only as good as its people and fusionSpan has some AMAZING people. Definitely the most talented and competent crew I’ve ever worked with. And that’s easily what I’ve enjoyed the most.

Once a month, fusionSpan will share the talent and hard work of the people that we call our team. From Delivery, Consulting, Operations, and more – we pause to get a little bit personal, showcasing the faces behind the technology solutions that we work on each day. This month we meet fusionSpan Senior Consultant, Alexander Lord!

What was your first job? Tell us about it.

Alexander Lord When I was 16, I started working weekends behind the counter of a convenience store in the student union on a nearby college campus. The hardest part was definitely assembling the Sunday paper.

Who has influenced you most in your professional path/career?

Probably my first boss out of college, working at an oil terminal. On a personal and political level, we disagreed on almost everything, but he helped instill a work ethic that drove me to go above and beyond.

What’s your favorite part about working in the technology industry? What drew you to it?

I fell into the technology industry by accident. I was a temp, interviewing for a database analyst position. I went to the library and checked out every book I could find on SQL and relationship database theory. That was over a decade ago. It’s the creativity and problem solving that keeps me interested.

What are the main responsibilities of your current role? What do you enjoy most about your position?

Like many of my colleagues, I am responsible for delivering high quality solutions to our clients. My role is to ultimately get my clients to a place where they don’t need me anymore. Everyday, I’m trying to make myself obsolete.

Looking back, what career advice would you tell your 18-year-old self?

Keep learning how to learn. You’ll do fine.

Do you have a favorite quote?Alexander Lord

Before technology, poetry was a large part of my life. So I’d have to go with Walt Whitman:

“You shall no longer take things at second or third hand, nor look through the eyes of the dead, nor feed on the spectres in books,

You shall not look through my eyes either, nor take things from me,

You shall listen to all sides and filter them from your self.”

What’s your favorite thing to do when you’re not working?

When I have the time, Dungeons & Dragons. And eating. But sometimes I’m working and eating at the same time, so maybe that doesn’t count.

What’s a fun fact about you many people may not know?

I was a volunteer firefighter in high school.

If you could have an unlimited supply of one thing, what would it be, and why?

Fast metabolism. The years are catching up to me…

What words would you use to describe fusionSpan? What have you enjoyed most about being here?

Employee Spotlight – Lynette Raudner

Avatar photo March 29th, 2022 by
Lynette Raudner
Director of Training, Delivery Team

Lynette Krishnabhakti Raudner is a passionate technology trainer, instructional designer, and training manager. She joins fusionSpan with 12 years of experience in the technology training industry, having worked in corporate consulting, law firms, and tech startups. When not at work Lynette enjoys yoga, hiking, and outdoor adventures with her dog Ember.

What was your first job? Tell us about it.

In high school, I was part of a few dance companies and did Show Choir. When I was 17 my dance teacher referred me to my first job as a Party Motivator for a company called Washington Talent Agency. As a Party Motivator, I went with DJs and Bands to Bar/Bat Mitzvahs where I would teach the kids and adults line dances, played games with the kids, handed out party favors, and encouraged everyone to get up on the dance floor! It was a lot of fun and I continued this through college as a weekend job.

Who has influenced you most in your professional path/career?

After college, I took a part-time job helping out in the office at a Technology Training company called Gestalt Partners. I worked for the VP of Sales, Kathy Kelly. I worked closely with her for a while and she thought I would make a good instructor, so she suggested I take a class to see if I wanted to teach it. I took the opportunity and sat in on an Introduction to Excel class. I studied the manual and taught my first class to two people. Needless to say, I found my calling as a technology trainer and later an instructional designer and training manager. I spent the next four years working for Gestal Partners as a technology trainer, traveling all over the DC Metro area providing training for organizations like Exxon Mobile, the Department of Education, Greenpeace, to name a few. Kathy gave me the opportunity to learn and expand my career in the industry. She has been a mentor to me my entire career and if not for her I wouldn’t be where I am today.

What’s your favorite part about working in the technology industry? What drew you to it?

My favorite part of working in the technology industry is that I get to be a lifelong learner and I get to help people! I was drawn to this industry because I have an aptitude for learning new technology and I enjoy helping teach people how to use it and navigate the change this has in their work lives.

What are the main responsibilities of your current role? What do you enjoy most about your position?

I joined fusionSpan to help build a training arm of the business. To not only improve and expand our training offerings for our customers but also for our employees. Currently, my main responsibilities are conducting client training, expanding our training templates/documentation, providing training and support for our employees, helping to improve internal processes, and rolling out new training initiatives and offerings. What I enjoy most about my position is that I get to work with an amazing group of people to build a department from the ground up!

Looking back, what career advice would you tell your 18-year-old self?

Put yourself out there, don’t be afraid, and always do your best!

Do you have a favorite quote?

I don’t have a favorite quote but this is one that I resonate with…

“The only way to do great work is to love what you do. If you haven’t found it yet, keep looking. Don’t settle.”

– Steve Jobs

What’s your favorite thing to do when you’re not working?

I love getting out in nature and practicing yoga. Some of my favorite hobbies are hiking in the woods, singing karaoke, spending time at home with my fur-babies and my partner, reading a good book, painting, and visiting with family.

What’s a fun fact about you many people may not know?

My middle name is Krishnabhakti and I was given this name by the guru of a Hare Krishna temple my dad designed and built. The temple is in Durban South Africa and is called the Sri Sri Radha Radhanath Temple.

If you could have an unlimited supply of one thing, what would it be, and why?

Energy! That way I can accomplish more things and not be tired! haha

What words would you use to describe fusionSpan? What have you enjoyed most about being here?

fusionSpan is a wonderful company to work for and I absolutely love the people I get to work with. As a company, I love its mission of Bridging Gaps Through Technology ! This is something that resonates with me deeply as it is why I chose my career in technology training. I also really believe and embrace the company values: Culture of Caring, Give Back to Our Community, Embrace Change & Strive For Growth, and Deliver Seamless Experiences & Solutions! I feel fortunate to be part of a company that holds these kinds of values and I am so lucky I get to work with some of the brightest, kindest, and most driven people in the industry!

Employee Spotlight – Ryan Ram

Avatar photo May 25th, 2022 by
Ryan Ram
Salesforce Consultant

Born and raised in Montreal, Canada, Ryan holds a master’s degree in Communication and Culture from York and Ryerson University. An avid St Louis Cardinals baseball fan, Ryan has traveled across the U.S visiting baseball stadiums (been to 24 ballparks) and can often be found playing sports or watching his favorite teams on television. Ryan brings with him to fusionSpan previous experience in Salesforce non-profit consulting and project management.

What is a fun fact about yourself that people might not know?

I have traveled and visited 24 different Major League Baseball stadiums. My goal is to see all 30 MLB stadiums eventually. What started out as an ambitious goal between my brother and me was to see all the current MLB baseball stadiums suddenly seem within reach. I hope to visit the remaining stadiums over the next few summers.

What is your favorite thing about working at fusionSpan?

My favorite thing about working at fusionSpan is how collaborative the environment is. Everyone is always willing to help when needed, regardless of whether they are working on your project or not. I cannot stress enough just how much I appreciate working at a place where colleagues prioritize collective goals rather than personal ones.

What are some of your hobbies or interests?

Sports is one of my biggest hobbies. I am a part of a curling league and have joined softball, baseball, and basketball leagues in past summers.  I enjoy exploring new music and going to concerts. I also enjoy watching movies and going to the cinema to see as many new releases as possible.

Since joining fusionSpan, how have you grown professionally?

I have no doubt become a better consultant since joining fusionSpan. Getting to work alongside some incredible people has allowed me to develop better practices for working with clients. I have also improved my technical knowledge as a result of working consistently with colleagues who share insights I didn’t know or better ways of implementing Salesforce and Fonteva.

What do you like most about fusionSpan?

I love how fusionSpan fosters a culture of inclusion and open-mindedness. It is amazing how receptive everyone at fusionSpan is to hearing new ideas, thoughts, and suggestions. Since the first day, I started at fusionSpan, I have never felt like I couldn’t say what I was thinking or that things I said wouldn’t be valued or appreciated. In fact, fusionSpan actively encourages employees to challenge the status quo and think of ways to make improvements, something many companies are hesitant to do.

Favorite Animal and why?

Dogs are definitely my favorite animal. I’ve never owned one, but I can confidently say with 100% certainty that I will one day. I didn’t use to be a dog person, but I have developed a true fondness for them. My social media algorithms have caught on to this because all they consistently feed me is dog content, which I don’t mind. I love how genuine and loyal dogs are and that all they want is to have fun and eat some food.

Is there a quote or motto that you live by/ has stuck with you?

A motto that I live by each day is to do what makes you happy. We’ve only got so much time on this planet, so why should we do things that don’t bring joy to our lives? I really started to embrace this motto within the last few years, and I’ve never been happier. I’ve created some incredible memories and seized opportunities I would never have by simply saying ”yes!”

What is your favorite movie?

Oooooh. That’s a tough one. There are so many movies I love. If I had to pick only one, I would have to say Shawshank Redemption is my favorite. I’ve probably seen this movie at least 20 times and will literally never turn down an opportunity to watch it again.

New call-to-action

Employee Spotlight – Christian Pacheco

Avatar photo September 19th, 2022 by
Christian Pacheco
Application Support Engineer

Hello Everyone! My name is Christian and I am very excited to be coming back to the fusionSpan team! For those that do not already know, I am a huge sports fan. I can watch virtually any sport on TV and find appreciation for it. On top of the list of sports that I enjoy watching is basketball and I am diehard Celtics fan! Although it has only been less than two years since my initial departure, I have a lot of friendly faces to meet!

What is a fun fact about yourself that people might not know?

I like being competitive and that is about a lot of things. It is something that I don’t let others find out about me, but I am competitive whether it’s at any games that I play, sports or really just anything. I like to finish stuff fast and it really doesn’t matter what it is; I just like to make it into some kind of competition for myself.

What is your favorite thing about working at fusionSpan?

It is definitely the culture and environment of the company. I often talk about the culture here because everyone is friendly and caring for each other and their work. It brings in a lot of team work at fusionSpan. It allows for everyone to help each other on projects. It was, of course, a lot more expressive when we worked in the same physical office space, but it’s still a friendly and caring culture.

What are some of your hobbies or interests?

Playing and watching sports is the biggest thing I like doing. I have two dogs, a Black Lab/itt mix and a Black Lab/Australian Shepherd mix. They fill up a lot of my time. They love going on long walks and hikes. This is mostly what I like doing and then the occasional video game is another hobby. Mostly sports and my dogs, maybe occasional video games.

What are some of your favorite things about your job?

There are a few. The people here are so smart, impressive, and helpful. Added responsibility is what I love. More lately, I like the added responsibility I have got. Managing a team has been really eye opening, a really big learning experience for me. My favorite thing would be my team members. I watched them grow, take on more responsibilities, and take on more — something they didn’t have to. Seeing my team work as a team to better ourselves during a transition is so nice to see.

What has been your favorite project to complete since joining the team?

I would say the LMS we are currently working on. We are implementing a new LMS for our internal onboarding and future internal and external training. Leading the project with the training team and working with them and owning it, has been nice. It is like my baby project that I got to start from scratch.

Since joining fusionSpan, how have you grown professionally?

It has been only a few months since I rejoined and was given an opportunity as a manager. I feel very happy about it. I got promoted in two months, which I don’t think was planned, but we take opportunities that come our way. I definitely had a lot of opportunities before as well. There was a lot to learn. I guess on the cultural end, too, I feel growth, because prior to coming back, I was at a much larger company, where decisions were made for me and not so much by me. Now as a manager, I am making a lot of decisions and it has been really nice to hone in on that.

What are some hopes for your future at fusionSpan?

With respect to myself, I want to continue to be a good manager for my team but most of my goals are for the team. I want them to be successful and also support the rest of the fusionSpan team the way that is needed. Everyone is dependent on us and if we can do that and make our processes better, it will be amazing. I want everyone on my team to be successful and self-sufficient.

How has your career grown since joining the team?

As a whole, when I was originally with fusionSpan, it was a very entry level position. It’s only gone up from there. It started out with doing the basics to eventually holding almost an entire department’s support. I went from not doing a lot, to supporting managed services. And now it’s about managing projects and processes as a whole, which continue to step up and being the lead of the department.

What do you think are 3 words to describe fusionSpan?

Those would be Fun, Caring, and Hardworking.

Before working here, what was the most unusual or interesting job you had?

I have never really had an unusual job. Outside of IT I have worked in Retail. The thing that is different is that it involved Sales, and I don’t think I’ve sold anything since then. It was helpful, though. There was a lot of customer interaction, which sort of helps with clients in the long run.

What do you like most about fusionSpan?

The teamwork here is amazing. Everyone is with the program and knows if we don’t put in our part we can fall behind and our teams will not succeed. Everyone is really good with that and knowing what’s on the line. In larger companies, it’s okay to coast and give minimal effort.t’s great that here at fusionSpan, it’s instilled in everyone that we need to be a team and support one another.

Favorite Animal and why?

My favorites are Dogs. I feel like they get to know your energy and they almost know exactly what to do depending on how you’re feeling. They know how to match your energy. No matter what, I feel like Dogs are always down to do whatever you want to do.

What does your ideal weekend look like?

It’s a mix of walking my dogs , eating out with my girlfriend, and relaxing. With my dogs, we normally go on a trail around the neighborhood. Sometimes, I have to balance their different levels of energy. One of them needs to be tired out and the other can be home all day and just never leave.

What is your dream meal or favorite food?

Cheeseburgers! That’s my go-to meal. Right now, my favorite place is something local in the area, it’s called “The Habit.” It’s turned into a chain here but it’s a go-to place for me.

How do you spend your free time?

Pretty much the same way I like to spend my weekends. With my dogs, with my girlfriend, and playing games — video and outdoor. I play a bunch of sports and really like it.

Is there a quote or motto that you live by/ has stuck with you?

If you are depressed, you are living in the past. If you are anxious, you are living in the future. If you are at peace, you are living in the present.

What tv show are you currently binging?

The Office. That’s what it is. I’ve finished it multiple times. It’s always on in the background in my house. For a quick laugh it’s always Kevin/ Creed. I love the character development for Dwight. It’s a great show!

What is your favorite movie?

Good Will Hunting.

Who is your favorite celebrity or innovator and why?

Kobe Bryant – I think he has always preached about hardwork and dedication and that you don’t get anywhere without hard work. He put in 2-3 times more hard work than any other person in the NBA and those qualities and that mentality that he brought inspires me.

Employee Spotlight – Marlene Sebastian

Avatar photo January 30th, 2023 by
Marlene Sebastian
Senior Trainer
Marlene is from Windsor, Ontario, and has seven years of experience in the Learning & Development (L&D) field and has worked in both academia and the service sector. She specializes in adult learning, software training, and instructional design. Columbia. She enjoys yoga, espresso, learning new tech, and obsessing over her Siberian cat named Winston.

What is a fun fact about yourself that people might not know?

In the Philippines, where I was born, it’s common to name a child using an amalgamation of their parents’ first names. My mom’s name is Maria, and my dad’s Nicasio – they were set on naming me Marnie. Fortunately, when they went to the city hall to register my birth, the secretary misheard and put my name as Marlene instead of Marnie, and I guess my parents liked it and stuck with it! I still sometimes thank my lucky stars for this, as I love my name!

What is your favourite thing about working at fusionSpan?

There are a lot of things I love about fusionSpan, but the one that really stands out to me is the company’s dedication to diversity and inclusion. A lot of companies will tell you that they are dedicated to diversity and inclusion, but you will rarely find it reflected in their leadership, their employee base, or their practices. With fusionSpan, I found all of these things. Take a peek at fusionSpan’s About page, and you will see what I’m talking about!

What are some of your hobbies or interests?

I love weightlifting, yoga, video games, reading, and fashion. For video games, I love playing co-op games with my husband – some of our favourites are Elden Ring, Portal, DOS2, and Borderlands. For books, I am a big fan of George R.R. Martin and nonfiction (mostly memoirs and psychology books). Lately, I’ve been into sewing. I got this vintage Husqvarna Viking sewing machine from the 1960s that I love so much.

What are some of your favourite things about your job?

I love that my job affords me to be creative and collaborative. fusionSpan operates in 8+ countries across the globe, thus allowing me to have plenty of conversations and collaborations with people who bring with them such a rich diversity of experiences and perspectives. I truly feel lucky to be working with such an amazing group of people!

What has been your favourite project to complete since joining the team?

We recently overhauled our internal LMS, and it has been such a blast flexing my creative muscles for this project. The Training Team collaborated heavily with IT to get the technical setup completed and with Delivery to get the courses and programs created. Happy to report that we successfully launched the LMS on January 17!

Since joining fusionSpan, how have you grown professionally?

Absolutely! fusionSpan is my first experience not just in the technology space but also in the non-profit and association space. This afforded me a lot of opportunities to learn and see in action agile methodologies and business-to-business (B2B) processes. The professional relationships I’ve made at work have already made me a better educator and designer.

What are some hopes for your future at fusionSpan?

I hope to see fusionSpan grow even bigger in the coming years! I would like to see us continue to build on our identity and our core values and really lean on them as our northern star as we navigate around the many pitfalls and noise we will surely encounter as we continue to grow.

What do you think are 3 words to describe fusionSpan?

Fun, Collaborative, Global

Favorite Animal and why?

Cats! I have two cats – a Siberian named Winston and my domestic shorthair named Lexi. Cats are very much like people, and I find that very fascinating. From my two cats, I’m constantly reminded to respect boundaries and be more present and empathetic; otherwise, I will miss the clear signals that they give me that communicate what they feel. For instance, when I pet Winston, once he moves his head away from me, that means he’s had enough pets. If I’m not attentive to this cue, I for sure will get a well-deserved nibble on my hand.

Is there a quote or motto that you live by/ has stuck with you?

I recently read Michele Obama’s The Light We Bring, and in one chapter, she talks about how she strived for success despite feeling like an outsider in certain spaces. This excerpt really resonated with me and sums up why I strive for a high bar in everything that I do:
Whatever the signals in those spaces were–whether people saw me as different, or unentitled to be there, or problematic in some way, even if what I was sensing was unconscious or unintended–I didn’t need to let those signals in. I had a choice about it. I could let my own life, my own actions, represent my truth. I could keep showing up and keep doing the work. That poison wasn’t mine.

What is your favourite movie?

One of my favourite movies is Amélie (2001), a quirky French comedy about a young, painfully shy woman who takes care of the people around her in her own eccentric and loveable way but is also haunted by the loneliness that she sometimes feels. This film’s cinematography, musical score, writing, and acting are all so beautiful. I have watched this movie at least five times, and it hits me in the feels every single time!

New call-to-action

Employee Spotlight – Bill Abraham

Avatar photo February 27th, 2023 by
Bill Abraham
Director – Managed Services

My name is Bill Abraham. I work as Director , Managed Services at fusionSpan. I graduated from University of Texas at El Paso with a Bachelor's degree in Business Administration and Finance, and I am also certified as a Salesforce Administrator. Prior to fusionSpan, I worked as a database manager and project manager for an association. My other titles with associations were Membership Coordinator and Accounting Assistant. I enjoy football, eating good food, and laughing at bad movies.

What is a fun fact about yourself that people might not know?

In my free time I scout college football players for the NFL. I take a list of about 150 to 250 draft eligible players each year and watch films to see for myself how well they will do at the next level. I’ve always loved football, so much so that my wife jokingly (or perhaps not so jokingly) calls football my first love. Unfortunately, after numerous knee injuries and surgeries, I can no longer play football recreationally, so this has been a way for me to stay close to the game.

What is your favorite thing about working at fusionSpan?

My favorite thing, which has persisted since I began with fusionSpan, is how willing everyone is to help you if you reach out. I don’t even think it is an intentional push but rather an effect of the type of people that make up the team. It really is a culture of collaboration, rather than competition.

What are some of your hobbies or interests?

Beyond the obvious answer of watching football, I would say reading, playing video games, and weightlifting. Non-fiction books about topics I don’t have direct experience with have always caught my eye. This is especially true for books that go into description of the theory and practice behind complex systems, similar to how books like Fabric of the Cosmos do the same for Physics.

What are some of your favorite things about your job?

Development of my team; I am a coach at heart, and I love to see them become the professionals I knew they can be. Once you embrace your role as a coach and leader, it becomes impossible not to be swept away by enthusiasm for the team and its success. I quickly became prouder of my team and their accomplishments than I am my own.

How has your career grown since joining the team?

My career has been a whirlwind since I joined in 2020. I began as a Business Analyst, brand new to the industry and before I knew it, I am leading a team and practicing. There are significant benefits to having such a rapid change, since the challenges and needs of the ground floor are still fresh in my mind as I work to create policies that are most beneficial to the company. It is important as a consultant to keep the point of view of all stakeholders in mind when acting and making decisions, but it is just as important to continue doing this when you are leading and managing your team.

What do you think are 3 words to describe fusionSpan?

Collaborative, growing, challenging.

Before working here, what was the most unusual or interesting job you had?

Early in high school, probably earlier than I should admit to, I spent a summer transporting and installing washers and dryers throughout a military base. We didn’t have enough dollies to go around so I often carried them up flights of stairs by hand on my own. That summer I learned that I hated washing machines and that a dolly is a wonderful thing.

What do you like most about fusionSpan?

The best thing about fusionSpan is that Leadership will listen to feedback and new ideas.

What is your dream meal or favorite food?

My own Green Chicken Enchiladas. Perfection.

How do you spend your free time?

Exercising, eating, and playing games with my kids.

Veronica Arevalo, from El Salvador, has worked in Recruiting for over 5 years with prior experience at local recruiting firms and multinationals that attract talent regionally and globally for different fields. She has a passion for making a positive impact on other people’s life by helping them find their next career. Veronica believes everyone has a story to share. In her free time, she enjoys baking, dancing, staying in tune with nature, and spending quality time with her loved ones.

What is a fun fact about yourself that people might not know?

When I was a young student, I had a cousin named Claudia. We grew up together and had similar childhoods. We were doing everything together and people thought we were sisters. I remember praying every day to get a young sibling but as I grew up, I realized that she was my soul sister. I was praying, but God already gave her to me. I am grateful that Claudia is like a sister to me.

What is your favorite thing about working at fusionSpan?

The work culture here is great. When I speak of work culture It’s about how well fusionSpan takes care of its employees by following the Value “Culture of Caring” which creates the environment for skills and career growth. I always share this with candidates when speaking to them in interviews. I tell them how we follow our culture despite being distributed around the world and working virtually. I enjoy working here because of the culture of this company and the people I work with. I don’t think it’s very common for any company to have such a strong culture.

What are some of your hobbies or interests?

I have a sweet tooth, so I have a passion for cooking and baking with a particular focus on desserts. I also love making jewelry. I like to reconnect with nature, especially the beach. I am a sunset chaser and I love capturing those moments in photographs no matter where I am. These are the things that bring me peace and remind me of my childhood. And I always love to explore new places or new restaurants with my husband.

What are some of your favorite things about your job?

Since I joined fusionSpan in 2021, every day I met people around the globe, and this is what I love about my job – people in general. I am a part of their journey, and I am able to impact  someone’s life. I have an opportunity to talk to people, so I may be changing their day, or maybe when we make an offer we may change the life of that person & their families. So here I am, not just impacting a person, but also the whole family, a whole community, and so on.

How has your career grown since joining the team?

I have grown in many ways here. When I was hired by fusionSpan, I thought I would be working in a specific region, but I was given the opportunity to pursue global talent. That was my first career challenge and my path to growth. Having previously been employed to hire in Latin American countries, it has been a real boost to my learning and career growth here. I started with specialized sourcing & searches. Then,  I was promoted to Senior Talent Acquisition specialist. Now I am working to continue to attract the best talent. I am really happy that I was able to join the journey of this company. I have grown here personally & professionally and am really glad to be a part of this amazing organization.

Before working here, what was the most unusual or interesting job you had?

I really had this entrepreneurial spirit. I have sold a variety of things from food to jewelry to desserts that I have made. I had a degree in marketing, so my first job was in sales. I sold clothes and dealt with customers, but since this was my first job, I wasn’t sure about this decision at first until I discovered recruiting and I have never looked back since.

What does your ideal weekend look like?

I enjoy spending time with my family and loved ones. I enjoy exploring new places and meeting good company. Ideally, what I love most is nature. Even a small act of kindness fills me up and gives me energy for the week.

What is your dream meal or favorite food?

I love pizza and real pasta, which contains real, fresh vegetables, herbs, and sauces, unlike packaged or processed goods.

How do you spend your free time?

What is your favorite movie?

I’m a huge fan of Anne Hathaway and I love the movieThe Devil Wears Prada.”

Employee Spotlight – Ulises Bejarano

Avatar photo August 16th, 2023 by
Ulises Bejarano
Senior Application Support Engineer

Hi everyone! My name is Ulises and I’m your friendly neighborhood IT Guy, always trying to make a difference and available to help. I’m passionate about technology with more than 10 years of experience working for international companies, always open to learning new things. I’m a movie, video games, and comic books fan and I spend way too much time on these hobbies. I love to travel and see new places, and I look forward to traveling all around the world.

What is your favorite thing about working at fusionSpan?

I’m delighted to find a remarkable harmony between my workload and personal time in this remote IT role (and my first remote job too). This is in stark contrast to my experience, where stress levels were quite high due to a lack of balance between work and personal life.

What are some of your hobbies or interests?

My passions revolve around watching movies and indulging in video games regularly. I just spent 200 hours on one of the latest video games I have. I spend all weekend playing and completing game levels. I dedicate a significant amount of my time to these activities, as they bring me immense joy.

What are some of your favorite things about your job?

For several years now, I’ve dedicated a significant portion of my time to customer service, and the most rewarding aspect of this job is the opportunity to connect with people and serve them. It’s heartening to experience the kindness and gratitude from individuals who appreciate the assistance I provide; this aspect of the job resonates with me deeply. Supporting people and being able to lend a helping hand is something I genuinely cherish. What I love most about my current role is the willingness of people to listen and engage, making each interaction meaningful and fulfilling.

How has your career grown since joining the team?

For a while, I worked in the aerospace industry, where the tasks were quite different. Now, in my current role, I have the chance to familiarize myself with new technologies and enhance my expertise in Mac OS systems. Being someone who always yearns for learning and growth, I find this opportunity to be incredibly fulfilling.

This job also marks my first experience in a remote environment, which has proven to be an excellent platform for continuous learning and personal development—something not many companies offer. Working remotely has given me valuable insights into how businesses can be effectively supported in such an environment.

What do you think are 3 words to describe fusionSpan?

Innovation, Teamwork, Excellence

Before working here, what was the most unusual or interesting job you had?

I used to be employed in the aerospace industry, where I held the position of overseeing the support team in the design department. My responsibilities included equipping individuals with the necessary tools, and I was particularly involved in the assembly of aircraft. Witnessing the transition from a meticulously sketched plane on paper to a fully assembled aircraft right before my eyes was a truly remarkable experience. The sheer marvel of witnessing such a substantial amount of metal take flight into the skies left me in awe. This role provided me with extensive knowledge about planes and the broader field of aviation. Undoubtedly, it was the most captivating and intriguing job I have ever held.

As a team member, I received a Boeing 787 Dream Liner First Flight Coin as a token of appreciation as shown below.

What do you like most about fusionSpan?

This marks my initial experience working within an exceptionally positive and secure work environment. I find tremendous ease in my role at this company, where the collective effort is dedicated to ensuring every individual’s comfort and offering unwavering support whenever necessary. The harmonious interaction between P&C and all staff members is truly commendable.

What does your ideal weekend look like?

The most enjoyable weekend for me is when I pay a visit to my family in Mexico. With a large family residing near a lake, we indulge in boating, water biking, and delightful barbecues. These moments spent together are consistently filled with immense joy and bonding.

How do you spend your free time?

During my leisure hours, I greatly cherish spending time with my friends. I’ve had these friendships since my high school days, and we often meet up for coffee and ice cream. Occasionally, we watch movies together and take strolls around the city.

What is your favorite movie?

My upbringing was filled with comic books, and I particularly enjoy live-action adaptations of Marvel comics. “Forrest Gump” has captured my attention countless times, and another favorite of mine is “Big Fish.”

This approach is a lesson I’ve inherited from my grandparents, who, when faced with problems, would mock the issues and find humor in them.
